“If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.” the words of Thomas Jefferson’s have never been so true. We live in a culture of great ignorance, and thus one of corresponding bondage and oppression. In order to reverse this, parents, whose duty it is to educate the next generation, must examine closely the education of their children.

The Bible clearly teaches that the education of children rests in the hands of their parents. Duet. 6:7 says “You shall teach the (the statutes of God) diligently to your children, and you shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise.” In this verse we see three aspects of education that God lines out:

  • What is being taught?  “The statutes of God”, as followers of Christ, education must be God centered.

  • When and how is it taught? Diligently, as you sit, walk, rise and lie down. Whoever your child is with the most will be their teacher and influencer.

  • Who is teaching? "Teach YOUR children". Its is parents responsibility to oversee and direct the Godly education of their children.

There are so many means and methods of education today. Whatever method is used parents must honestly ask:

  • Is it God centered?

  • Who is with the child the most, thus has the most influence?

  • Are you recognized by that system or method as the authority over the decisions of your child’s education?

If these questions are answered honestly it becomes clear some methods of education do not lend themselves to the Godly rearing of children. Any system or mode in which any of these things are questioned should be abandoned as destructive to the end goal of training kingdom workers.
